Review: Caudalie Beauty Elixer

WHY: I'm sure you guys have seen this product floating around the internet like I have. And like a lot of people, because of it's presence (omnipresence?) I felt compelled to try it out. The small size at $18 it isn't cheap, but the cost also isn't super prohibitive to try out unlike if it only came in the mega $48 size! I bought this when I had some Sephora store credit, which was cool because it was kind of like I was trying it out for "free," haha. (I love the return policy by the way! Got store credit for some make up brushes I bought a year ago and never used, so returned for store credit to buy this and a make brush I now use every day! Woo hoo! <3 you Sephora!).

REVIEW: Like other beauty bloggers, I am not sure what this elixer is really supposed to "do" specifically, but the experience was nice. I grew accustomed to spraying this on after a shower as it was nice and refreshing, and felt great when my face was still a little red & blotchy from the hot water + face products. It was especially refreshing when my face was having an "angry" day (which I am starting to think is cased by continued use of face wipes, but not 100% sure yet... might be the moisturizer with AHA in it too...). Some people hate the smell, I didn't mind it, but I also didn't love it. Peppermint is fine, but I am totally a spearmint kinda gal. I'm not sure this product did anything magical to my skin like some people think it does. I didn't get magically clear skin, or anything like that, though I think some people are just brain washed into thinking this elixer is doing that for them but they really have skin like me: skin that breaks out either the week before, or the week of the "girly" time of the month, but then it looks its most amazing the week after the "girly" time of the month. If you start using a product during the break out phase, of course you are going to think the product is magical when you enter your awesome skin week of the month, haha, but if you are aware of your skin's phases/cycles then you should know to not just a product by its performance during your super week, but its performance during your break out times. I don't think it did anything magical during my break out times other than mentally sooth me, and sometimes calm my red skin down.

VERDICT: Would I buy this again? I don't think so, but I really do like the idea of a face spray! Maybe I should be trying out make up settings sprays, Mac Fix+, or some kind of spray toner because I loved the experience  and would love to use a spray that actually has real results vs placebo affects, haha. If I ever did buy this again it would probably be this same small size, and probably if I was able to find it at a discount!

My Little Black Bag(tm) Experience

Have you guys heard about the website Little Black Bag yet? Because it is amazing! If you are interested in checking it out after reading this post, my referral link is HERE.
So what is Little Black Bag? (Or LBB). It is a new kind of shopping service where every month, for $55, you get to pick out an item you want to purchase and then you are given 2-3 mystery items. The value of your bag is always more than what you pay for, generally in the $100-$150 range. After you commit to purchasing, your mystery items are revealed, and then the fun crazy part starts! You can trade with people on the site. So if you don't like the mystery items, or you change your mind about what you picked out, you can trade for other things! You get a week to trade, but you can also end trading early by clicking the "ship my bag" button. I think this is a nice feature because you can decide that you love everything and just ship right away, or if you are really good at the whole trading system, you can amp up the total value of your bag if you make good strategic trades!

I've actually gone through the LBB trading process twice now because I ended up returning my first bag. There had been an error of some kind where an item that I traded for showed up with the wrong image on the website so when my package arrived I received a completely different purse than I thought I was purchasing! Luckily LBB customer service is amazing! They let me return the whole bag (but I also could have just returned the purse and kept the other things, with the refund price apportioned by the value of each  item), they made the return easy because they provided me a shipping label that I just had to print and tape on the box, and didn't even have to go to the post office except to drop off the package since it was too big of a box to put in the mail box! Also, when I did my initial LBB purchase, I had a Klout coupon code that let me get a bump up in the value of my total bag by letting me have an additional item. Once I had to make the return, the Klout perk code had expired because it had been used by me once, and also had gone past the time limit it. LBB customer service was so fantastic, they set up a new promo code for me that did the same thing as the Klout code did, which let me use it on my second bag. Nothing says how good a company is more than it's customer service if you ask me!

So what did I get in my Little Black Bag? Funnily enough... I got a little black bag! Haha. And a really nice leather and gold bracelet.

Nila Anthony Buckle Satchel
Gorjana Harper Leather Bangle

Here a shot of the inside of the purse. Please note that the stain in the bottom was by my own doing when I had a "pen incident" of sorts a few weeks ago, and that the bag did not arrive this way, haha!

When you log on to the site now, it is very unlikely that you will see these items since I made my order at the end of May (sorry it took me so long to write up this post! Dang bar exam got in my way). But items do make come backs, because since buying this bag, I did see the Gorjana bracelet restocked one time (I wanna say it was the beginning of July maybe?). So if you see an item you love, but it got away from you, fear not, it might return, and even if it doesn't, a different color version of the item might be headed to the site soon!

So what do you guys think of this kind of website? Have any questions, comments, concerns? Comment below! :)

Pre-Vacation Empties

Well I'm off for vacation for 3 weeks, so I thought I would do an empties post before I left!

1. L'Occitane Brightening Instant Exfoliator
I quite liked this sample scrub! It has a nice smaller granual scrub feeling to it, which is how I prefer my scrubs, rather than big chunky scrubbers, and I liked the flowery smell too. The L'Occitane Brightening line really has me intrigued, as I would love to lighten a patch of acne scars on my left cheek! I wonder if this scrub, with long term use would make a difference... but at $36, I'm gonna have to wait til after I get a job!

2. Yes to Tomatos Clear Skin Daily Balancing Moisturizer
1. I love the smell, it's like cinnamon/snickerdoodle cookies. 2. I love the packaging, it's an airless pump. 3. I like the results, it's just what you need from a no super frills moisturizer, while still keeping acne prone skin in mind! And at $15, I definitely see myself buying this again!

3. Mario Badescu Collagen Moisturizer
This moisturizer was nice. I liked that it had SPF, and I liked how it absorbed into the skin. It felt like a good all around light moisturizer because it never felt heavy, but I always felt hydrated enough. Would I buy it full size though? I'm not sure. It starts at $22 and I'm not sure I love it enough to spend that much on a general all around moisturizer. Maybe if it was targeted at correcting something? Or if I found it to be amazing during the winter? I'd love to sample this again in the winter.

4. Mario Badescu Drying Cream
I actually didn't use all of this up, it dried out because the lid cracked when I closed it too hard/too much (something that had a tenancy of happening with all my Mario Badescu samples). It smelled strongly of sulfer, and I wasn't thrilled with the results. I felt like it over dried. It did have one perk of concealing blemishes quite a bit because it was so opaque and thick. Buy full size? Nope, too expensive for something I don't really need.

5. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup
Check out my post entirely dedicated to this makeup: here!

6. Essie Disappearing Trick
This is a cuticle remover gel that I would use prior to pushing up my cuticles. I first heard about it on the Youtube, and was intrigued because I always would just push my cuticles up dry - no lotion, nothing. I liked the results, but I feel like it might be a little unnecessary if I have hand creams that might make a good substitute. I haven't done a manicure without this product yet, so maybe my opinion will change and I will realize how much I loved it after I don't have it anymore, but currently I am not running out the door to re-buy it. I am interested in trying out other cuticle creams, etc.

7. Boscia White Mask Sample
I love Sephora samples. This sample was filled to the brim which let me have enough to cover my entire face! Score! Additionally, I found that I loved this mask! It is a peel off mask and unlike the drug store peel off mask I have, this one peels of cleanly, and the small pieces that don't aren't a pain to remove like the drug store one is! Buy full size? I am really tempted to! I am going to get a sample of the black mask and see how I feel about the two. Though, given Boscia's prices, I might not be able to justify the price until after I use up the face masks I currently have, even if they are drug store, and even if the Bosica ones are better for brightening, etc.

8. L'Occitane Hibiscus Flower Ultra Rich Body Cream Sample
Can I just say, that I learned I like the scent of Hibiscus flowers because of this sample? Divine! Combined with the shea butter/ play doh smell that is L'Occitane's Ultra Rich Body Cream scent, the results are heavenly. Like the regular Ultra Rich, this one moisturizes quite nicely and doesn't leave you greasy, or wanting more. Will I buy the full size? Maybe when I have a job and can justify an expensive moisturizer, but until then I can pine, and hope it shows up as a gift this winter!

9. Softsoap Coconut & Warm Ginger Hand Soap
If I recall correctly, I wanna say I got a fabulous deal on this, like BOGO free at CVS fabulous, but I'm not 100% certain. Either way, this is a nice hand soap! I like that the ginger wasn't dominant or overpowering; the scent was more like a coconut soap with the edge cut off by the slight ginger hints. The one thing it doesn't have going for it is moisturization, but it also doesn't claim to do so. I find that I need moisturizing soaps, and this soap proved to be no exception. I enjoyed it while I had it, but won't die if I never buy it again. Would definitely consider buying again if I had a need to a non-moisturizing soap because the scent is quite nice!

10. L'Occitane Ultra Rich Cream
This stuff is beautiful. It smells nice and relaxing, and the moisturization is amazing. I would buy it in a heart beat if it weren't so freakin' expensive! Until I can justify an extravagant lifestyle, I will just have to mope and hope!

11. Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Brightening Facial Towelettes
I got the travel size of this product in my April birchbox and reviewed it then. I still love the smell, and it's still true that you need to store them upside down. However, unless you actually use them everyday, even storing upside down will not keep them moist when you use them less than a few times a week. When I first bought these, I used them consistently, then I great bored, or my skin became a little sensitive, or something, because I stopped using this pack. Then, when I moved home after law school I decided I needed to use them up because I accrued a bunch of various Klout Perk face wipes that needed to be used, and these Yes to Blueberries wipes were hogging the sink space. When I started up using these again consistently, I found the towelettes to be dry and unfulfilling. Will I buy these again? I am not sure. I think I might not be a wipe person, despite my continued attempts to like them. They weren't terrible, so I wouldn't be against buying a travel size again if I needed them for travel, because the scent is so nice an refreshing. But I don't "need" them, and I didn't notice anything amazingly brightening about them.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color

So one of the things I got in my Summer Beauty VoxBox through Influenster was the Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color in Red-y Response. I have never tried a "magnetic" polish before, but I am here to report that it is actually really easy! It is as simple as holding the magnet thing over your nail during your 2nd coat of polish!

What do you guys think of the pattern, or idea of magnetic polishes? I am kind of interested in trying out a magnet that is chevron shaped, though I am not sure if Sally Hansen has a chevron one yet. I would love to see a black & white magnetic polish too! Maybe a polka dot pattern magnet? There are so many possible options!

What do you think? Comment below :)

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration, my love! You are back in my life and people are learning about your greatness! If you remember, I had a bottle of the Spf 12 in December when I was down in Florida, which was where I first discovered this product, and like I predicted in my empties post about the product, the product is new for sale this summer up here in the mid-east! I was lucky enough to snag this mini bottle through Inflenster, but I also have a new full size spf 12, as well as the dry oil spray, and face block stick from Hawaiian Tropic (can you tell I love the brand? haha).

Like I noted in December, this suntan lotion is amazing. It really does moisturize for 12 hours, and it gives me all the spf protection I need while still being able to get some tanning color (at least with the spf 12, with the spf 30, I tan less). It also has that AMAZING Hawaiian Tropic smell which I just love for the summer and when at the beach!

Keep an eye out for sales on this product because I was able to get the full size spf 12, and the dry oil spray on a BOGOFree deal, coupled with a $1 off Hawaiian Tropic coupon! And if you are really creative, you could also pair the deal with a percentage off coupon (like how CVS does 20% or 30% coupons every now and then), if you time it right!

Any one else in love with this sunscreen? Comment below! :)
